Organ Trail- Western Horror Costumes

About Organ trail & Review
A few months ago, I attended the screening for Organ Trail which took place on the Paramount lot in one of their screening theaters. Surrounded by cast and crew from all over the state we sat together to get a first look at our collective efforts. I knew the story line of this show because when you work with Yvonne Reddy( Costume Designer)  she really wants to convey the characters personalities and mind set. This is really helpful when creating a costume for a character, knowing who they are and what their experience will be lends to the narrative of the final costume. Organ Trail is a horror western. It’s one of those  genres you can hit or miss with. I am not a harsh critic of film structure, if the story is decent, there is some development of connection to a character and the show is entertaining I’m happy. This show is about a group of ruthless sociopathic “bad guys” with the exception of a few members. These members through the course of the story develop a sense of morality and eventually redeem themselves in the end. Organ Trail Movie Poster

Spoiler Alert: some good people die, the heroin of the story develops strong survival skills and triumphs, all the bad guys die, and you feel a little sad for two of them, but they still deserved to die. All in all, it was more entertaining that I was expecting so was pleasantly surprised. Check out Organ Trail if you are into the Horror Western Genre of film it will not be a waste of your time. Also, makeup artist Brittany Turpen FX burn makeup was super top notch for an indie film and the bad guy burn scene was great! It was a nail bitter couple of scenes. Side note about “the collective effort of cast & crew and filmmaking. I want to emphasis collective efforts. The making of a film is not just about the top billing contributors. Each person involved in the process of a feature is important. I am in the costume world as a custom-made costumer primarily in the pre-production to production phase of a show. I see each department in my world and all the people around me in other departments working long hours sometimes pulling 80+ hours, taking time away from loved ones and life to put their (our Collective) best foot forward to make every project we work on our best work. This specific project we had a couple of weeks to make from nothing all the key builds, doubles, and stunt costumes. Which basically equaled 14-20 hour days for the duration of that time period. I think I may have stepped out of the studio less than a handful of times while working on this build for the entire duration. Day before due date we worked overnight doing all the finishing. We do not miss deadlines in the custom made world. The point of this explanation is a bit of a gripe. We made the lion’s share of costumes for this film and were not noted in credits, and the person who took the covid tests on set was. It’s a very small thing that means allot. That’s all.
About Coustume Builds

Costume Builds for:

Organ Trail

Synopsis:

A young Abigale Archer alone in the Montana winter during the 1870s who fights for her survival and to retrieve her one earthly possession, a family horse, from a gang of bloodthirsty bandits

Genre: Horror Western

Costume Designer: Yvonne Reddy

We made the majority of the Key costume builds for this show. Working with the brilliant designer Yvonne Reddy. We had about two weeks to do the hero, Doubles and stunt costumes.

Because filming was taking place during Winter in Montana we lined all these costumes with either boucle fleece fabric or light weight wool. Weather was also a factor when sourcing and choosing medium to heavy weight wools to flow with design and comfort of actors in between take was taken into account. We enjoy sourcing and discussing material choice for each of our projects with the designer if possible.

We love working with Yvonne especially because she is so very thoughtful with each element of her design process working with us to help her find the best material to fit her vision, her attention to the minutiae of each piece, and her graceful professionalism.
